Nintendo’s September 9 Direct gave Switch 2 owners a much clearer picture of the months ahead. The roughly 45-minute presentation focused on games launching this winter, but several of its biggest announcements reached well into 2027.

Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond led Nintendo’s first-party reveals, while Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Persona 6 and a new group of Resident Evil releases added weight to the third-party lineup.

For players trying to figure out what is actually worth keeping on their radar, these were the announcements that mattered most.

Nintendo Direct September 2026 Switch 2 game announcements
Nintendo’s September Direct revealed new Switch 2 games, release dates and major third-party support.

Metroid Ravenous brings Samus back in January

Metroid Ravenous was one of the biggest surprises of the presentation.

The new 2D Metroid adventure launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Nintendo also confirmed a lineup of amiibo tied to the game, including Samus and a Chozo Statue.

A third Samus figure wearing the Metroid Suit will be included with a Special Edition that also contains the game and a steel case.

The January release date gives Nintendo an important first-party game almost immediately after the holiday season. It also keeps the 2D side of Metroid active rather than leaving Metroid Dread as a one-off return to that style.

Nintendo has not explained much about the larger structure of Ravenous yet. The first footage establishes its side-scrolling action and new setting, but details about progression, exploration and how the story connects to earlier games are still limited.

For now, January 28 is the date Metroid fans need to remember.

Kirby and the World Beyond takes Kirby into another 3D adventure

Kirby and the World Beyond is coming to Switch 2 in spring 2027.

Nintendo describes it as a new 3D adventure where players can freely explore expansive environments and use Kirby’s Copy Abilities to interact with the world.

The timing is notable because 2027 marks Kirby’s 35th anniversary.

Nintendo has not announced an exact release date, so there is still plenty left to reveal. The first look suggests that World Beyond will continue the series’ move toward larger 3D spaces after Kirby and the Forgotten Land, rather than returning to the traditional side-scrolling format.

How open those areas actually are and how progression works remain unanswered questions.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 in December

Monster Hunter Wilds is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4.

Capcom confirmed that the Switch 2 version will include title update content available for the game, including the Grand Hub and returning monsters such as Mizutsune and Lagiacrus.

Full cross-platform multiplayer is also supported.

That makes the Switch 2 release more useful than a late isolated port. Nintendo players will be able to hunt alongside players on other supported platforms instead of being separated into a smaller ecosystem.

Capcom also confirmed that the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion will come to Switch 2 in 2027.

Monster Hunter has a long history on portable hardware, so Wilds arriving on Nintendo’s newest system feels like a natural fit. The December timing also puts it directly into the holiday lineup.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation arrives in April 2027

Square Enix confirmed an April 8, 2027 release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation on Switch 2.

The game is the final entry in the modern Final Fantasy VII remake project and continues Cloud’s pursuit of Sephiroth.

Its Switch 2 release is another sign that Nintendo’s newer hardware is attracting major third-party games much earlier than the original Switch often did.

Square Enix also released Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion for Switch 2 on the day of the Direct, giving players another Final Fantasy title to play before Revelation arrives next year.

Persona 6 is coming to Switch 2

Atlus confirmed that Persona 6 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2.

There is one important detail, though. Nintendo did not announce a Switch 2 release date during the presentation.

Persona 4 Revival has a much clearer schedule. The remake will launch on Switch 2 on May 20, 2027.

That gives Persona fans one confirmed date and one major game still waiting for more information.

Persona 6 coming to Switch 2 is significant on its own, but until Atlus provides a launch window, it belongs on the watch list rather than the release calendar.

Resident Evil expands its Switch 2 lineup

Capcom is also bringing more of its modern Resident Evil catalog to Switch 2.

Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are all headed to the platform.

The announcement gives Switch 2 owners native access to several major modern Resident Evil games instead of relying on the cloud-based versions used for some releases on the original Switch.

Together with Monster Hunter Wilds, the Resident Evil announcements gave Capcom one of the strongest third-party showings of the Direct.

Pikmin 4 gets a dedicated Switch 2 edition

Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition plus Dandori Academy launches November 12.

This is more than a straightforward visual upgrade.

Nintendo is adding features built around Switch 2 hardware, including the ability to issue voice commands to Oatchi through the console’s microphone.

Dandori Academy adds 72 timed stages that will roll out over time, with different difficulty levels, medals and online leaderboards.

Existing Pikmin 4 owners will also have an upgrade path instead of needing to buy the full game again.

For returning players, Dandori Academy is probably the more interesting reason to revisit the game.

Mario Kart World gets classic courses

Mario Kart World received a free update during the Direct.

Ten classic courses from the original Super Mario Kart are being added as standalone races in VS Race, including Choco Island, Vanilla Lake and Ghost Valley.

Nintendo is also adding Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally to Knockout Tour, along with a Spectator Mode for online and LAN sessions with friends.

Unlike most of the announcements from the presentation, this update does not require a long wait. Nintendo made it available the same day.

The Witcher 3 reaches Switch 2 this month

The Witcher 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 29.

The release includes the main game and its expansions while taking advantage of the newer hardware for a stronger version of CD Projekt’s RPG on a Nintendo system.

The original Switch port was notable simply because the game could run on the hardware at all. Switch 2 gives CD Projekt much more room to improve the portable version without giving up the ability to play away from a TV.

A new expansion called Songs of the Past is also planned for 2027.

Professor Layton finally has a release date

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam launches December 10.

The game brings Professor Layton and Luke back together in Steam Bison, a town built around rapid technological development and a new mystery.

The project has appeared in Nintendo presentations for some time, so the confirmed December date finally gives players something concrete to plan around.

It also adds another recognizable release to an increasingly crowded end-of-year Switch 2 schedule.

Nintendo Switch 2 games announced for late 2026 and 2027
Nintendo’s September Direct filled out the Switch 2 calendar from late 2026 into 2027

Switch 2 has a much clearer road into 2027

The biggest takeaway from Nintendo’s September Direct is not one specific game. It is how quickly the Switch 2 calendar has filled out.

The Witcher 3 arrives September 29. Pikmin 4’s Switch 2 edition follows November 12. Monster Hunter Wilds launches December 4, with Professor Layton arriving December 10.

Metroid Ravenous then starts 2027 on January 28. Final Fantasy VII Revelation follows in April, Persona 4 Revival arrives in May, and Kirby and the World Beyond is scheduled for spring.

Several of the more interesting announcements are still missing exact dates. Persona 6 is confirmed for Switch 2 but remains undated, while other projects are still sitting inside broader 2027 windows.

That gives Nintendo and its publishing partners plenty left to reveal.

What changed after September 9 is that Switch 2 owners no longer have to guess whether the system has enough major games coming after the current release window. The calendar is beginning to look much more settled, and several of its biggest additions are only a few months away.
