Upcoming Xbox exclusives are no longer defined by console availability alone. Microsoft releases most of its first-party games on PC, and several established Xbox franchises are now appearing on PlayStation.

A modern Xbox exclusive is often better described as an Xbox console exclusive. It launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC but remains unavailable on PlayStation or Nintendo systems. Some also support cloud gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere.

This guide separates those games from multiplatform Microsoft releases. The complete upcoming Xbox Series X games calendar covers exclusives alongside third-party launches.

Platform plans can change. The classifications below reflect the systems currently announced by Microsoft and the developers.

Upcoming Xbox exclusives with confirmed dates

The current schedule includes one major Xbox console exclusive with a confirmed 2026 release date.

Gears of War: E-Day

Release date: October 6, 2026
Confirmed platforms: Xbox Series X|S and PC
Current status: Xbox console exclusive
Game Pass: Confirmed for launch
Xbox Play Anywhere: Check the final store listing

Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set during the beginning of the Locust War.

The story takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War. It follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as they experience Emergence Day.

Microsoft has positioned the game as one of its signature Xbox exclusives for 2026. The announced platforms are Xbox Series X|S and PC. No PS5 or Nintendo version has been confirmed.

The PC release means the game is not completely restricted to Xbox hardware. It remains an Xbox console exclusive because it is not currently planned for another console.

The game is also scheduled to join Game Pass at launch. Players should verify which subscription tier includes day-one access because not every Game Pass plan provides new releases immediately.

What about a future PlayStation version?

Microsoft has brought several former Xbox exclusives to PS5. That does not confirm that Gears of War: E-Day will follow the same path.

Xbox has described the game as an exclusive within its current strategy. A PlayStation version should not be assumed unless Microsoft announces one.

The correct description at this stage is Xbox and PC exclusive based on the officially supported platforms.

Upcoming Xbox console exclusives without final dates

Several Xbox and PC releases are in development without firm launch dates.

Clockwork Revolution

Release window: 2027
Confirmed platforms: Xbox Series X|S and PC
Current status: Xbox console exclusive
Game Pass: Expected through Xbox’s first-party release model

Clockwork Revolution is a first-person role-playing game from inXile Entertainment.

The game is set in the city of Avalon. Players use time travel to influence events and change parts of the world.

Xbox identified Clockwork Revolution as one of its signature exclusives planned for 2027. No PlayStation or Nintendo version has been announced.

PC availability keeps it from being a true hardware exclusive. It is still an Xbox console exclusive under the current platform plan.

A final release date has not been confirmed. Retailer listings should be treated as placeholders until Microsoft publishes the schedule.

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School

Release window: 2026
Confirmed platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC
Current status: Xbox console exclusive based on announced platforms
Game Pass: Confirmed for launch
Xbox Play Anywhere: Confirmed

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is an open-world puzzle game built around an academy filled with escape rooms and a larger mystery.

The game supports solo play, online co-op, and split-screen couch co-op. That combination makes it useful for players who want flexibility in how they solve puzzles together.

Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC are the currently announced systems. No PlayStation or Nintendo version has been confirmed.

Its Xbox Play Anywhere support allows an eligible digital purchase to work across Xbox console and Windows PC. It can also synchronize supported progress between those devices.

A specific release day is still needed.

Tears of Metal

Release date: Coming soon
Confirmed platforms: Xbox Series X|S and PC
Current status: Xbox console exclusive based on announced platforms
Game Pass: Confirmed for launch
Xbox Play Anywhere: Confirmed

Tears of Metal is a medieval co-op roguelike built around large battles and Scottish warriors.

Players fight through groups of enemies while attempting to reclaim their island. Cooperative play is a central part of its current description.

Xbox Series X|S and PC are the announced platforms. No PS5 or Nintendo version has been confirmed.

The game is scheduled for Game Pass and supports Xbox Play Anywhere. Its final release date remains unannounced.

Players interested in co-op should wait for confirmation about group size, matchmaking, and cross-play between Xbox and PC.

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand

Release date: Coming soon
Confirmed platforms: Xbox Series X|S and PC
Current status: Xbox console exclusive based on announced platforms
Game Pass: Confirmed for launch
Xbox Play Anywhere: Confirmed

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand combines hotel restoration with a supernatural mystery.

Its premise involves repairing an old hotel while dealing with unusual characters and events. The game includes a talking power tool and a sardonic cat, which gives it a lighter tone than many supernatural adventures.

Xbox Series X|S and PC are currently the only confirmed platforms.

The game is planned for Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere. Microsoft has not provided a final launch date.

Xbox-published games that are not exclusives

A game appearing in an Xbox showcase does not make it exclusive. Microsoft now publishes or promotes several games across competing consoles.

Fable

Fable is an Xbox Game Studios release developed by Playground Games. It is planned for Xbox Series X|S, PC, cloud, and PS5.

That makes it a multiplatform Microsoft game rather than an Xbox console exclusive.

Xbox players still receive platform benefits such as Game Pass availability and Xbox Play Anywhere. Those benefits do not change its multiplatform status.

Halo: Campaign Evolved

Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled for Xbox, PC, and PS5.

The original Halo was one of the franchises most closely associated with Xbox. Its arrival on PlayStation means the remake should not be described as an Xbox exclusive.

Xbox may still offer Game Pass access and additional ecosystem features.

Forza Horizon 6

Forza Horizon 6 has an announced PS5 version in addition to its Xbox and PC availability.

The timing of the PlayStation release may differ, but the game is not permanently exclusive to Xbox consoles.

Minecraft Dungeons II

Minecraft Dungeons II is published by Xbox and launches through Game Pass. Microsoft’s announcement also directs players to the developer for information about other platforms.

Unless Microsoft explicitly limits the game to Xbox and PC, it should not be presented as a confirmed Xbox exclusive.

Xbox Play Anywhere does not mean Xbox exclusive

Xbox Play Anywhere allows eligible digital games to work across Xbox consoles and Windows PCs with one purchase.

Supported games can share progress, achievements, and saves between the two platforms. The exact features depend on the game and account.

Play Anywhere does not describe exclusivity. A game can support the program and still launch on PlayStation or Nintendo.

It also does not mean that two people can use one copy at the same time. Licensing and account rules should be checked before planning a co-op setup.

Game Pass is separate from exclusivity

Game Pass availability does not make a game exclusive either.

Many third-party games launch on Game Pass while remaining available for purchase on PlayStation, Nintendo, Steam, and other stores.

The important questions are:

  • Is the game published by Xbox?
  • Which console platforms are officially announced?
  • Is PC availability confirmed?
  • Is another console version coming later?
  • Does Game Pass include it on the first day?
  • Which subscription tier provides access?
  • Does it support Xbox Play Anywhere?
  • Is cloud gaming available?

These details provide a clearer picture than the word “exclusive” alone.

How to check an Xbox game’s exclusivity status

Start with the game’s official Xbox page or developer website. Look at the platform logos and supported systems.

An Xbox Wire announcement can also confirm console, PC, cloud, Game Pass, and Play Anywhere availability.

Be careful with articles published before a newer platform announcement. A game described as exclusive in an old report may now have a confirmed PS5 version.

“Console exclusive” usually means the game is also on PC. “Launch exclusive” can indicate that another console version may arrive later.

If Microsoft does not use those terms, describe only the announced platforms.

The Xbox exclusive lineup is more focused

Upcoming Xbox exclusives now sit inside a wider multiplatform strategy. Gears of War: E-Day is the clearest major Xbox console exclusive with a confirmed date. Clockwork Revolution is the larger project to watch for 2027.

Smaller releases such as Escape Academy 2, Tears of Metal, and There Are No Ghosts at the Grand strengthen the Xbox and PC lineup while supporting Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere.
