Already Released: October 1–9

Gears of War: E-Day — October 6

The series returns to Emergence Day, with Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago at the center of its origin story. Xbox and PC players have a major campaign-focused release to revisit this month. For platform and preload context, read our Gears of War: E-Day guide.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer — October 6

This Star Wars racer focuses on repulsorcraft competition, customizable speeders, and the Galactic League. PlayStation lists October 6 for PS5; release calendars also list Xbox Series X|S and PC. For anyone after something other than an action-adventure Star Wars game, it is a distinctive early-month pick.

Kingdom Hearts and Dragon’s Dogma arrive on Switch 2

Nintendo lists KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] for October 8 and Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen for October 9 on Switch 2. The former gathers Sora’s core saga, while the latter offers expanded fantasy RPG content and a snow-covered region. Nintendo also lists the puzzle adventure Order of the Sinking Star for October 9.

October 13–16: Action, Horror, and Call of Duty

Valor Mortis is listed by PlayStation for October 13: a first-person soulslike built around a supernatural alternate-history take on Napoleonic Europe. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse follows October 15, starring Rose Belmont in a gothic action adventure. Switch 2 also gets the rhythm-action game Ratatan on October 15.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has different dates depending on platform. PlayStation’s October lineup lists October 15 for PS5, whereas Nintendo’s October release roundup lists October 23 for Switch 2. Don’t treat the later Switch 2 date as the universal release date. Check the Xbox and PC storefronts for their respective launch timing before buying.

October 16 brings Switch 2 editions of Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, according to Nintendo’s schedule.

October 22–29: RPGs, Sports, and Stylish Action

Final Fantasy Resonance — October 22

Nintendo’s listing describes Final Fantasy Resonance as an HD-2D, turn-based entry featuring Visions inspired by characters throughout the series. Both the original Switch and Switch 2 are listed for October 22.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort — October 22

Nintendo brings motion-controlled sports back to Wuhu Island, with 12 activities ranging from bowling to skateboarding. Its listed release date is October 22 on Switch 2.

Minecraft — October 27; Phantom Blade Zero — October 29

Nintendo lists an enhanced Switch 2 version of Minecraft for October 27, including Vibrant Visuals support. On PS5, PlayStation lists Phantom Blade Zero for October 29, a wuxia-inspired action game centered on fast sword combat.

Which October Games Should You Watch?

For Xbox and PC, start with Gears of War: E-Day and Star Wars: Galactic Racer. For PS5, check Call of Duty’s October 15 listing, Valor Mortis, Castlevania, and Phantom Blade Zero.
