Gears of War: E-Day is almost ready to deploy. The Coalition has confirmed that pre-installation begins September 29, giving Xbox and PC players time to download the game before Premium Edition early access starts on October 1 and the worldwide launch follows on October 6.

The studio has also confirmed that E-Day has gone gold and published its final PC specifications, making this a useful point to check whether your system is ready before the download window opens.

When does Gears of War: E-Day preload start?

Pre-installation begins September 29 at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET / 15:00 UTC on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam, according to The Coalition.

Players who own the Premium Edition can start playing up to five days early on October 1 at 8 a.m. PT. The standard worldwide launch is scheduled for October 6 at 8 a.m. PT.

Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members get access beginning October 6 rather than during the Premium Edition early-access window.

E-Day has officially gone gold

The Coalition announced on September 17 that Gears of War: E-Day had gone gold. In practical terms, the milestone means the launch build has reached the stage required for release, although updates and additional fixes can still arrive before or after launch.

It is another sign that the October 6 date is approaching as planned after months of trailers, campaign details and multiplayer testing.

Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements

The final PC specifications make one hardware requirement especially important: players need a modern DirectX 12 graphics card with hardware ray-tracing support.

The minimum specification calls for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600-class GPU, alongside 12GB of system memory. The recommended tier moves higher, while the most demanding 4K configuration requires substantially faster hardware.

The game also requires an SSD and roughly 115GB of available storage, so clearing space before the September 29 preload could save time close to launch.

As always with PC requirements, listed specifications are a starting point rather than a guarantee that every system will perform identically. Drivers, background software, thermals and individual hardware configurations can all affect real-world performance.

What platforms is Gears of War: E-Day coming to?

Gears of War: E-Day launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including the Microsoft Store and Steam. It supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing supported Xbox and Windows players to carry progression and achievements across devices.

The game will also be available through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day.

Campaign co-op and multiplayer are confirmed

E-Day returns to the beginning of the Locust invasion, following younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during Emergence Day, 14 years before the original Gears of War.

The campaign can be played solo, with two-player split-screen co-op on console, or with up to four players online. The game also includes competitive multiplayer and Horde Siege, a larger take on the series’ familiar wave-based PvE mode.

The Coalition has positioned the game as both a return to the darker tone of the original Gears and a modernized version of its cover-based combat. Familiar weapons and enemies return alongside new threats, movement options and traversal systems.
