Gears of War: E-Day launches worldwide on October 6, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC. This is a single global unlock rather than a rolling local-midnight release, so players on the East Coast, in Europe, and across Asia-Pacific will all get access at the same moment.

Premium Edition players are already in: early access began on October 1 at the same 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC unlock time. If you’re waiting on the Standard Edition, Game Pass Ultimate, or PC Game Pass, October 6 is the date that matters.

Gears of War: E-Day release time by region

The Coalition confirmed the worldwide launch for October 6 at 8:00 a.m. Pacific. Here is what that means across the main regions:

RegionRelease timeDate
US Pacific8:00 a.m. PDTOctober 6
US Mountain9:00 a.m. MDTOctober 6
US Central10:00 a.m. CDTOctober 6
US Eastern11:00 a.m. EDTOctober 6
UK4:00 p.m. BSTOctober 6
Central Europe5:00 p.m. CESTOctober 6
Japan12:00 a.m. JSTOctober 7
Sydney2:00 a.m. AEDTOctober 7

Because the unlock is simultaneous, changing your console region to a country that reaches October 6 earlier will not move the launch forward. The game opens when the global timer hits 15:00 UTC.

Early access is already live

Marcus Fenix in Gears of War: E-Day ahead of the October 6 launch

If you bought the Premium Edition or have access through the Premium Upgrade, you do not have to wait for October 6. Early access opened worldwide on October 1. For everyone else, including Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members without the upgrade, the full launch remains October 6.

That distinction matters if you’re seeing gameplay clips online before the official release date. The game is not leaking early; a portion of the player base legitimately has access several days before the standard launch.

Where can you play Gears of War: E-Day?

At launch, Gears of War: E-Day is available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam. Xbox also lists cloud access through Game Pass Ultimate, while GeForce NOW support is available for players who prefer cloud streaming on supported devices.

Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers get access on October 6. If you’re planning to play through Game Pass, make sure the correct version is installed before launch rather than waiting for the unlock window to start downloading the full game.

Preload before the servers get busy

Pre-install opened on September 29 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam. We already covered the preload window and what PC players should check before launch in our Gears of War: E-Day preload guide.

Official Gears of War: E-Day PC system requirements for minimum, recommended, and ultra settings

On PC, The Coalition’s launch specifications call for an SSD and scale from a 1080p/60 FPS minimum target up to a 4K/60 FPS Ultra target on substantially faster hardware. If your connection is slower or your SSD is tight on space, preloading now is the safest move.

Watch the official launch gameplay trailer

The launch trailer gives a much better sense of what The Coalition is emphasizing for E-Day: a darker tone, the return of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, and the early horror of the Locust invasion. The game is set 14 years before the original Gears of War and is built around the events that turned Emergence Day into the defining catastrophe of the series.

What happens at launch?

The full release opens the door to the standard player base on October 6. The campaign can be played solo, while multiplayer includes Versus and the PvE-focused Horde Siege mode. Console players also get two-player split-screen support.

If E-Day is one of several games on your October list, our October 2026 game release calendar tracks the other major launches landing around it.

The short answer

Gears of War: E-Day unlocks globally on October 6 at 8:00 a.m. PDT / 11:00 a.m. EDT / 3:00 p.m. UTC. Premium Edition early access is already live, while Standard Edition and eligible Game Pass players join at the worldwide launch.

If you’ve already preloaded, there is nothing else to do except wait for the global unlock. If you haven’t, start the download before launch day so the first thing you see at 15:00 UTC is the game, not a progress bar.
