Grand Theft Auto VI is getting closer, and after years of rumors, leaks, and endless fan theories, we finally have a much clearer picture of what Rockstar is building.
GTA 6 takes us back to Vice City — but this isn’t just a prettier version of the city we remember. Rockstar is expanding the action across the state of Leonida, with Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos at the center of a crime story that looks bigger, messier, and more ambitious than anything the series has attempted before.
Here’s everything you actually need to know about GTA 6 right now.
When does GTA 6 come out?
GTA 6 is officially scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
The game is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. Rockstar has not announced a PC release date yet, so PC players are still waiting for confirmation.
Pre-orders are already available, while digital pre-loading is scheduled to begin on November 12.
Yes, the wait has been brutal. But at least we finally have a real date on the calendar.
Welcome back to vice city
Vice City is back, but GTA 6 is going much further than the neon streets and beaches of Rockstar’s fictional take on Miami.
The game takes place across Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida.
Rockstar has already shown several different environments, from the familiar streets of Vice City to the Leonida Keys and other areas beyond the city.
That matters because GTA 6 doesn’t look like it’s simply giving us another dense urban playground. Leonida appears designed to feel like an entire region with its own cities, communities, wildlife, nightlife, highways, beaches, and wonderfully strange residents.
Basically: Florida, turned up to GTA levels.
Meet Jason and Lucia
At the heart of GTA 6 are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Lucia has already become one of the most recognizable faces of the game. Rockstar says she learned to fight from her father at a young age, and after fighting for her family landed her in Leonida Penitentiary, she’s determined to make smarter moves.
Jason comes from a different background. After a troubled youth and a stint in the Army, he eventually ended up working with local drug runners in the Keys.
Then Jason meets Lucia.
And judging by everything Rockstar has revealed so far, their relationship is going to be one of the biggest parts of the story.
When what should have been an easy score goes wrong, the pair become caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. Their survival increasingly depends on trusting each other.
There are obvious Bonnie-and-Clyde vibes here, but Rockstar seems to be building something more complicated than a simple criminal power couple.
GTA 6’s world looks absolutely packed.
One of the most exciting things about GTA 6 isn’t just the size of Leonida—it’s how alive the place looks.
The trailers and official screenshots show crowded beaches, clubs, convenience stores, highways, boats, motorcycles, wildlife, social-media-style videos and plenty of classic GTA chaos.
And then there are the characters.
Rockstar has already introduced several people surrounding Jason and Lucia, including Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Brian Heder and others who appear connected to different corners of Leonida’s criminal world.
If Rockstar can combine this level of environmental detail with the open-world freedom the series is known for, Leonida could end up being the real star of GTA 6.
What will GTA 6 gameplay be like?
This is where we need to separate what we know from what everyone hopes will happen.
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as its biggest and most immersive evolution of Grand Theft Auto yet, but the studio hasn’t revealed every gameplay system in detail.
The footage we’ve seen strongly suggests the familiar GTA formula is still here: driving, shooting, robberies, police encounters, exploration and plenty of opportunities to cause trouble.
But until Rockstar properly demonstrates individual mechanics, claims about specific gameplay systems should be treated carefully.
There’s already enough confirmed information to be excited about. We don’t need to turn every internet rumor into a feature.
Is GTA 6 single-player?
Yes.
Rockstar has officially described Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience.
Jason and Lucia’s story is clearly the focus of the initial release.
As for the future of GTA Online? That’s the giant question Rockstar still hasn’t fully answered.
Considering how enormous GTA Online became, we’d be shocked if Rockstar had no long-term online plans for GTA 6. But until the company announces them, anything more specific is speculation.
Will GTA 6 be on PC?
Eventually? It would surprise absolutely no one.
Officially? A PC version has not been announced.
For now, Rockstar lists only:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
So if you’re planning a GTA 6 setup specifically for launch day, don’t buy PC hardware based on an unconfirmed release date.
We’ll update this article the moment Rockstar makes the PC situation official.
What about the GTA 6 trailers?
Rockstar has released two major GTA 6 trailers so far.
The first trailer gave us our first proper look at Lucia, Vice City and Rockstar’s modern version of Leonida.
Trailer 2 went much deeper into Jason and Lucia’s relationship and showed significantly more of the world surrounding them.
More importantly, Rockstar has continued expanding the official GTA 6 website with character profiles, locations and screenshots.
We’re finally past the stage where almost everything about GTA 6 comes from leaks.
And that’s a very good thing.
So, How big could GTA 6 be?
It’s difficult not to have ridiculous expectations for this game.
GTA V has survived across multiple console generations, while GTA Online became one of the biggest ongoing games in the industry. Rockstar has had years to build its next open world, and everything shown so far suggests GTA 6 is aiming far beyond a simple sequel.
But hype can get out of control fast.
The best reason to be excited isn’t some anonymous leak promising 700 interiors or a map bigger than a small country. It’s what Rockstar has actually shown: an incredibly detailed Leonida, two potentially fascinating protagonists, and a modern Vice City that looks built for exactly the kind of chaos GTA does best.
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
And yeah — we’re counting the days too.
