Marvel’s Wolverine is almost here, and Insomniac Games is using its final stretch before launch to put Logan’s story back in the spotlight.
The latest trailer arrives ahead of the game’s September 15, 2026 release on PlayStation 5, bringing together characters, conflicts, and pieces of Logan’s past that Insomniac has been revealing over the past few months. Jean Grey remains a major presence, while Logan’s history with Team X continues to loom over an original story built around the survival of mutantkind.
For players who have followed Wolverine since its first reveal, the bigger takeaway isn’t simply another look at the claws. Insomniac is increasingly showing what kind of Wolverine story it wants to tell.

Jean Grey has a major role in Logan’s story
Jean Grey’s involvement is no longer just a cameo-sized tease.
Insomniac previously confirmed that Krizia Bajos plays Jean Grey alongside Liam McIntyre as Logan. The studio’s July story trailer opened with an angry confrontation between the two characters, giving Jean a clear place in the personal side of Wolverine’s story.
That relationship matters because Marvel’s Wolverine isn’t being presented as an isolated adventure about Logan cutting through anonymous enemies. Insomniac describes an original narrative in which mutants face the threat of annihilation, putting Wolverine into a conflict much larger than his own past.
Jean gives the game another recognizable connection to the wider mutant world without turning the story into an ensemble superhero game.
The focus is still firmly on Logan.
Team X keeps pulling Logan back into his past
Another important piece is Team X.
Insomniac has already expanded this part of the story outside the game through a digital prequel comic written by narrative director Walt Williams. According to the studio, the comic explores Logan’s difficult relationship with members of Team X during a mission involving the protection of mutants.
That makes Team X more than background lore.

Logan’s search for answers about his past is one of the central ideas behind the game. His history with Team X gives Insomniac a way to connect that mystery to people who knew him before the events players will experience on PS5.
The studio has deliberately kept some of those connections unresolved ahead of launch, so it remains unclear exactly how much of Logan’s Team X history will be playable and how much will be revealed through the main narrative.
That uncertainty is probably better left intact until September 15.
Wolverine is still built around aggressive close-range combat
The story reveals haven’t changed what Insomniac has been emphasizing about the actual game.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure rather than an open-world game. Combat is designed around getting close to enemies and maintaining aggressive momentum with claws, kicks, barrages, critical strikes, Techniques, and Adaptations.
Insomniac has also made Wolverine’s healing ability part of combat. Earlier gameplay footage showed Logan using his rage and regenerative factor when badly injured, reinforcing the idea that fights should feel different from simply controlling a more violent version of Spider-Man.
The game is unapologetically bloody as well.
Insomniac says players will have settings that can alter elements including dynamic blood and dismemberment. That gives players some control over the presentation without removing the brutal combat style the studio has built around Wolverine.

Logan’s journey goes well beyond one location
The game will also move Wolverine through several very different environments.
PlayStation lists the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and the fictional island nation of Madripoor among the locations players will visit. Madripoor itself includes areas such as Hightown and Lowtown.
That global structure fits the more focused design Insomniac has chosen.
Instead of placing Wolverine inside one enormous open world, the game can move Logan between locations as the story demands. That should give each part of his journey a more distinct identity while keeping the narrative moving.
It also leaves plenty of room for different enemy factions.
Insomniac has already shown The Hand and Lady Deathstrike as threats, while previous trailers and reveals have continued expanding the group of Marvel characters connected to Logan’s fight.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15 on PS5
Players won’t have to wait much longer to see how all of these pieces connect.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5 consoles and is PS5 Pro Enhanced. Insomniac has also confirmed New Game Plus, Mission Replay, Nightmare Challenges, Photo Mode through a day-one update, and a broad selection of accessibility options.
The game remains centered on Wolverine, but the closer it gets to release, the clearer its surrounding mutant story becomes. Jean Grey, Team X, The Hand, Deathstrike, and Logan’s missing past all point toward something more personal than a straightforward superhero power fantasy.
The claws may be the easiest part to sell. What Insomniac does with the man behind them is the bigger question September 15 will finally answer.
